Reflection:
Through my internship experience, I have learned that professional identity is not something you accomplish, but rather an ever-evolving responsibility that I will need to actively strive for throughout my career. I have come to understand that being a counselor means being willing to continue learning, growing, and reflecting on my work to ensure I am providing the best possible care to my clients. My goal throughout my career is to continue my education by furthering my degree, participating in trainings, seeking supervision, and staying up to date with the latest evidence-based practices. I also want to continue seeking feedback and recognizing areas where I can improve as a counselor. I understand that becoming a competent counselor does not end with graduation or completing my internship, but is a lifelong commitment to personal and professional growth. Ultimately, I want to ensure I am providing ethical, competent, and culturally responsive services while continuing to develop my identity as a counselor.
